Painting and decorating

A painting and decorating quote template that prices the prep

Decorating quotes go wrong in the preparation, not the painting. This worked example prices a hallway, stairs, and landing with the filling and sanding on their own line, states how many coats each surface gets, and says who supplies the paint.

Customer-facing note

The price covers the areas and coats listed and holds for 30 days. Colours are confirmed in writing before work starts; a change of colour after the first coat is priced as a variation. Trade-quality matt emulsion and satinwood are supplied by us. Please clear pictures and small furniture beforehand — floors, stair treads, and banisters are sheeted and protected throughout.

Figures are an original example in GBP at 20% VAT. Nothing here is a real customer, a real price, or a recommended rate — price your own work.

What this template gets right

How it moves through EstimateBird

  1. Open the example, measure your own rooms, and reprice the preparation, coats, and woodwork lines for the job in front of you.

  2. Email the quote so the customer confirms the scope and the colours in writing on their own link.

  3. When the work is finished, convert the accepted quote into an invoice and save a job report listing the colours and products used.

What it will not do

Worth knowing before you build a business process on it.

Questions about this painting and decorating quote template

Should a decorating quote include the paint?

Say either way, in writing. This example includes trade paint as its own line. If the customer is supplying the paint, remove that line and note it, so nobody argues later about who pays for the extra tin.

How do I price preparation on a decorating job?

As its own line, sized to the condition of the surfaces. On an older property it can be the largest single item. EstimateBird totals whatever you enter; it does not estimate preparation time for you.

What if the customer changes the colour halfway through?

The note in this example treats a colour change after the first coat as a variation. Raise a second quote for the extra coats and let the customer accept it the same way as the first.
